College (Canada)

In Canadian English, the term college usually refers to a technical, applied arts, or applied science school. These are post-secondary institutions granting certificates, diplomas, associate's degree, and bachelor's degrees.

Terminology

In English Canada, the term "college" is usually used to refer to technical schools that offer specialized professional or vocational education in specific employment fields. They include colleges of applied arts and technology, colleges of applied sciences, etc.

In Ontario and Alberta, and formerly in British Columbia, there are also institutions which are designated university colleges, as they only grant under-graduate degrees. This is to differentiate between universities, which have both under-graduate and graduate programs and those that do not. There is a distinction between "college" and "university" in Canada. In conversation, one specifically would say either "They are going to university" (i.e., studying for a three- or four-year degree at a university) or "They are going to college" (suggesting a technical or career college).

College (TV series)

College is a 1990 Italian comedy television series, based on the 1983/4 film College. It aired on Tuesdays at 20.30 in Italy from March 6 to June 5, 1990 for a total of 14 episodes. The episodes were directed by Lorenzo Castellano and Federico Moccia. The music for the series was provided by Claudio Simonetti. The female lead in the series is Federica Moro, Miss Italy, while her male counterpart, and her boyfriend, is Keith Van Hoven.

The college featured in the series is located near the Naval Academy in the heart of Tuscany. The show was produced by Reteitalia and had excellent results in the ratings, with a peak of 6 million viewers per episode. It has since been re-run on numerous satellite channels.

College is a St. Louis MetroLink Red Line station serving Southwestern Illinois College in Saint Clair County, Illinois. The station is east of Belleville, Illinois on Illinois Route 161 and west of Scott Air Force Base.

Province of Córdoba (Spain)

Córdoba (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkorðoβa]), also called Cordova in English, is a province of southern Spain, in the north-central part of the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is bordered by the provinces of Málaga, Seville, Badajoz, Ciudad Real, Jaén, and Granada. Its area is 13,769 km². A royal decree of November 30, 1833 created the Province of Córdoba (along with 48 other provinces), which was formed by joining the towns of the Kingdom of Córdoba and the following places in Extremadura: Belalcazar Fuente la Lancha, Hinojosa del Duque and Villanueva del Duque. The province is mainly divided into three geographical areas: the Sierra Morena to the north, the Baetic Depression in the center and La Campiña in the south. The climate is continental Mediterranean with temperatures in the capital ranging from 9.2 °C in January and 27.2 °C in July and August, which often exceed 40 °C. Rainfall in the capital is recorded from 600 to 750 mm per year. It is concentrated from October to April. The province of Cordoba is the 11th in Spain where the entire population is concentrated in the capital. On an average 31.96% of a Spanish province's population inhabits its capital. The province consists of 75 municipalities. They are further grouped into 8 “comarcas”.

Córdoba (Vino de la Tierra)

Córdoba is a Spanish geographical indication for Vino de la Tierra wines located in the autonomous region of Andalusia. Vino de la Tierra is one step below the mainstream Denominación de Origen indication on the Spanish wine quality ladder.

The area covered by this geographical indication comprises all the municipalities in the province of Córdoba (Andalusia, Spain).

It acquired its Vino de la Tierra status in 2004.

Córdoba (Albéniz)

Córdoba, Op. 232, No. 4, is a composition by Isaac Albéniz, originally written for piano as part of Chants d'Espagne.

Since it has been transcribed for guitar by Miguel Llobet, it has become one of the staples of classical guitar music. John Williams describes the piece as "real guitar music" and which he believes to be partly inspired by the Great Mosque of Córdoba in Córdoba, Andalusia. One author said "The beauty and romance, which is the particular charm of the city of Cordoba, inspired this composition."
